NASA Ames 2015 Summer Series. NASA’s mission to push the limits of human exploration to beyond low earth orbit and to Mars will take humans farther than ever before. Achieving these goals requires collaborations and development of new technology.
NASA Ames’ expertise in re-entry technology is helping develop the architecture to achieve these goals. The Orion Heat Shield is an example of the materials and technology development needed to sustain heating rates far greater than missions returning from the International Space Station. Jeremy Vander Kam describes details working with this engineering and scientific marvel.
